The 15202 Jumbo was introduced in 2000 as an homage to the first Royal Oak: the iconic reference 5402. The 15202 blends in all important design- and technological elements from the 5402. First of all, the 15202 has the traditional 'Jumbo' case with a diameter of 39 mm and a height of just 8.1 mm. This is why this robust and sturdy watch still wears elegantly on the wrist. The blue dial sports the iconic 'Petite Tapisserie' finish we have come to know and love. Just like the much-desired A-series 5402, the applied AP logo is located on the bottom half of the dial on the 15202 (known as an 'AP down dial'). The watch is powered by the ultra-thin 2121 automatic movement, which is based on Jaeger-LeCoultre's legendary JLC 920 calibre. Unlike the 5402 upon which it is based, the 15202 sports an open case back giving you an unobstructed view of the beautiful skeletonized 18k rose gold rotor. The steel case and integrated bracelet are in wonderfully sharp condition with the original chamfers as crisp as the day it left the Audemars Piguet facility. Finally, this 15202 comes as a full set with papers dating it back to 2015.

Introduction

Audemars Piguet Royal OakIn 1970, Audemars Piguet instructed Gerald Genta to come up with an unprecedented steel watch. As the story goes, he found inspiration whilst seeing a diver at work with an old-fashioned diver’s helmet near Lake Geneva. Staying up all night, Genta drew the design for a circular case with an angular, octagonal bezel, eight visible screws, and an integrated bracelet. The Royal Oak was presented in 1972 as the most expensive steel watch available and it caused an uproar: why was a distinguished maison d’horlogerie putting out a sports watch, let alone in such a pedestrian material? Some experts even predicted that the Royal Oak would put Audemars Piguet out of business. Though it took a while to catch on, the Royal Oak is now one of the most iconic and long-lasting watch designs and has spawned an entire product line. It wouldn’t be the first time that Genta would prove a brand’s owners, customers, and industry experts wrong.
