What is a legendary watchmaker to do when it opens an impressive new manufacturing facility? Release an equally impressive limited edition watch to celebrate of course.

To celebrate the completion of its new facility in Plan-les-Ouates (Geneva) in 2019, Patek released a limited edition version of its legendary Calatrava dress watch. Produced in just 1,000 pieces, the ref. 6007A was made from stainless steel, a highly unusual material since Patek’s flagship dress watch is usually only found in precious metal variations.

The ref. 6007A is a modern take on Patek’s iconic round dress watch. Nowadays, the classic Calatrava size (ranging from 31–33.5 mm) is often viewed as too small by Patek’s clientele. While we disagree with this, the 40 mm case size of the 6007A offers a more contemporary look while retaining the classic silhouette of the Calatrava.

The 6007A features a polished steel case with a sapphire front and back, the latter sporting the Calatrava Cross with the words “New Manufacture 2019” printed. The standout dial sets the 6007A apart from other Calatravas. Executed in a cool blue color, the dial features a sector style layout with several concentric circles that feature different visual details, among which a printed railroad minute track with 5-minute markings, a date window, applied Arabic numerals filled with Super Luminova and an hour scale, while the center of the dial is embossed with a carbon like pattern. All these details could have led to a cluttered, yet Patek has managed to arrange them into a beautiful harmonious whole.

This ref. 6007A from 2020 is in excellent condition and sports its original blue calfskin Patek strap with embossed fabric weave and a stainless steel Patek Philippe ardillon buckle. The watch comes as a full set with the original box and papers.
