Built around the Lemania-based caliber CH 27-70 Q, it represents one of the last eras in which Patek’s grand complications were assembled entirely by hand, each component finished to standards that bordered on obsession.

This particular example, produced in 1996, is a study in balance. The platinum case measures 36mm, its stepped lugs and concave bezel giving it both mass and proportion. It sits low on the wrist, yet feels monumental in presence. The deep black dial which is factory-fitted with diamond indices, transforms the reference into something altogether rarer; elegant but unapologetically opulent. Each diamond is perfectly aligned within the printed minute track, as if Patek’s watchmakers anticipated that even perfection could benefit from rhythm.

The perpetual calendar layout remains one of the most harmonious ever designed: day and month neatly framed beneath twelve o’clock, moonphase and date balanced at six. The subsidiary dials are slightly sunken, their typography sharp and deliberate. It’s a dial that rewards quiet observation, where even the negative space feels intentional.

Turning the watch over reveals the CH 27-70 Q movement, visible through the sapphire caseback. The bridges are brushed and beveled by hand, their edges gleaming under light. Each wheel, spring, and lever engages with a smoothness that can only come from hundreds of hours of individual adjustment.
