We’ll tell you a little secret if you promise to keep it to yourself. We like the smaller reference 3800 even more than the Jumbo Nautilus. It even comes at a friendlier price!
The 3800 is the midsize brother of the original 3700 Nautilus, coming in at a perfect 37.5mm. The 3800 wasn’t just a shrunken Nautilus, but introduced some important improvements vis-a-vis its older brother. For one, it was the first Nautilus with an in-house automatic movement: the caliber 335 SC. The letters 'SC' stand for seconde centrale and indicate that, unlike the big Nautilus, the 3800 comes with a central seconds hand. It’s a small detail but it gives the watch some dynamism.
This 3800’s white dial with horizontal painted cream color bars comes with a cool detail: it features two sigmas at the bottom (“σ SWISS σ”) indicating that the indexes on the dial and the hands are made of 18k gold. The watch comes with the original Certificate of Origin indicating she was sold in 1997. A stunning, timeless, piece of horology.
