If you think about rare or exclusive watches, you’ll probably be thinking of 4-digit reference Daytonas, stone-dial Day-Dates or highly complicated Patek Philippes. But I will bet you that this golden beauty is way harder to find and way more reasonably priced than the aforementioned examples. This time we’re bringing you a Rolex Date in 18k yellow gold. This piece carries reference 1503(-8), dates back to the year 1967 and runs on caliber 1575. We’re aware of the fact that it’s hard to find a watch that has more gold than this one. But thanks to the modest case size of 34 millimeters and the beautiful, tapering, 18k yellow-gold riveted Oyster bracelet, it will rather be a lust for than a thorn in the eye.Underneath the plexi crystal we’ll find – you will never guess –  a golden dial with 18k yellow-gold applied baton markers and an 18k yellow-gold tritium handset. Maybe, it will take some time to get used to it but sooner or later you’ll find out that you’re a hell of a boss wearing this lump of gold on your wrist.

Introduction

Rolex DateAs many of you would probably know, Rolex was the first watchmaker who created a full water- and dustproof case in the year 1926, twenty-one years after de foundation of the company. The innovation that actually led to the creation of this case was Rolex’s patented “Screw down crown” in combination with its two-piece screw-down case. This was the start of the Oyster series. It certainly lives up to its name because the watch is waterproof like an actual oyster that protects its pearl from seawater. This attribute protects the movement of the wristwatch. Later, the Date function on the dial was added, which was the birth of the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date.
