Introduction

Rolex DatejustIn 1945 Rolex created the flagship Datejust to mark the company’s 40th anniversary. This model was the world’s first self-winding wristwatch with a date indication. With the Datejust, Rolex also introduced the iconic 5-piece Jubilee bracelet, first in solid gold and later in bicolor and stainless steel. On the 10th anniversary of the Datejust in 1955, the magnifying ‘cyclops lens’ was introduced.Reference 1601The Datejust 16xx-series were produced between the '60s and the '70s. If you are looking for a vintage ‘daily beater’ this might be the perfect watch for you. They are affordable, user friendly and possess a timeless elegance that can be combined with basically, any outfit and every occasion. The Datejust usually comes on a Jubilee bracelet (which was especially designed for this watch). The reference 1601 has an 18k white-, yellow- or rose-gold fluted bezel and the case is from steel or gold. There is a wide variety of dial colours and configurations. Typical for Datejust models from this era are the pie pan dials: dials that look like upside-down pie pans because of the concentric ring that slopes downwards from the flat centre.
