Although more expensive, most people opted for the Day-Date. As a result, significantly fewer gold Datejusts exist. This ref. 16238 dates back to the year 1991 and therefore is one of the first to feature the upgraded caliber 3135 automatic movement. This movement was so sturdy and reliable that Rolex only introduced a successor in 2019, a whopping 30 years after the introduction of the 3135. This 16238 comes in the classic Datejust packaging: a 36 mm Oyster case executed in 18k yellow gold, a matching gold fluted bezel, and an 18k yellow gold ‘Super Jubilee’ bracelet with concealed clasp.
