Until some years ago, you could choose between a Day-Date and a Datejust if you were in the market for a classic gold Rolex. Although more expensive, most people opted for the Day-Date. As a result, significantly fewer gold Datejusts exist. Nonetheless, prices for gold Datejusts are still lower than your average Day-Date, making them a huge bang for your buck.

This ref. 16238 comes with the original box and papers dating back to 1988 and is one of the very first to feature the upgraded caliber 3135 automatic movement. This movement was so sturdy and reliable that Rolex only introduced a successor in 2019, a whopping 30 years after the introduction of the 3135. This 16238 comes in the classic Datejust packaging: a 36 mm Oyster case executed in 18k yellow gold, a matching gold fluted bezel and an 18k yellow gold Oyster bracelet with polished centre links. The warm tone of the yellow gold contrasts nicely with the glossy white dial with 'Pyramid' motif with 18k yellow gold applied 'Roman' numerals. The case and bracelet are in a great condition. Gold datejusts are already uncommon, but you’re even less likely to find one in this configuration.
