Yesterday, you had the opportunity to feast your eyes on a 1803/9 with a blue dial. Today, we thought we'd continue that theme with its modern successor. In front of you is the 118239 with blue dial. Safe to say, this combination never gets old.
One of the biggest differences between the 18239 and the 118239 is the construction of the case and bracelet. Rolex moved to a more solid gold design, making the 118239 approximately 25 to 30 grams heavier. It is a difference you immediately notice on the wrist. Another subtle but noticeable update is the high-polished lugs, giving the watch a slightly different look and feel.
The 118239 features a 36 mm 18k white gold case with a crisp fluted bezel and is fitted with the iconic President bracelet, complete with the concealed Rolex Crownclasp. Powering the watch is the Rolex Caliber 3155 automatic movement, equipped with a double quickset function that allows the day and date to be adjusted independently through different crown positions. This particular example is in exceptional condition. The case remains razor sharp, the fluted bezel is beautifully defined, and the bracelet is remarkably tight.
The watch is offered as a full set with its original box and papers. Produced in 2004, it is not often that you come across a watch with nearly two decades behind it that has been preserved to this standard. Opportunities like this do not present themselves very often.
Introduction
The very essence of luxurious time-keeping, provided with a day and date function. It was launched in 1956 as a niche model and was only produced in precious metals (yellow-, white- and rose gold or platinum). Its retail price was way costlier than any other Rolex model. However, due to its popularity among a lot of prestigious people, for example presidents (hence, its nickname), it became Rolex’ flagship model. Over the years this model has enjoyed associations with a wide variety of people, from world leaders, athletes, celebrities and mafiosi (like Tony Soprano). Regardless of the differences, they all had one thing in common: being successful in their area of expertise. Therefore, to this day the Day-Date is still synonymous with luxury, prestige, style and success. With exception of the most modern models, the Day-Date comes in at 36mm.
