Diaspro sanguignio stupendo.
That is Italian voor 'Beautiful Bloodstone'. This Day-Date comes from the country of pasta, pizza and the most extraordinary vintage Rolex; retailed by Luigi Verga in 1980. But more important than the Italian heritage -besides the papers- subtly displayed with the day disc, is the extraordinary dial. This dial is made out of green Jasper and displays some Hematite and white calcite inclusions. Due to the red spots it is more commonly referred to as 'Bloodstone'.
The quality of the dial is decisive for the value. Most of the stone dials developed some cracks or hairlines over time, since they are fragile and mishandling by subpar watchmakers can thus cost you quite some money. Yet, even-though over 4 decades old, the example we have here displays no flaws on the surface nor in the print of the gold-powder text. One could argue the inclusions are imperfections -caused by nature- and creating a unique canvas.
Other than the dial, the package around it is not bad either. The rare 18028 sports a smooth bezel; adding to the cleanness of the design. Additionally, it goes very well with the riveted Oyster bracelet. Lastly, nice to note it still has the original "closed" hands installed. This full set is now up for grabs!
