We're not going to bore you with the “Think of the watch that a president would wear…” story. We want you to think about Tony Soprano's watch. A watch that conveys status. A watch that commands respect. A watch that oozes luxury. And, granted, was associated with a few fictional murders.

The Rolex Day-Date is a true pioneer: the first automatic, waterproof, chronometer wristwatch that indicated both the date and day of the week. The 18xxx series, introduced in 1978, is the fourth generation of Day-Dates. This ref. 18038 dates back to 1979 and houses Rolex’ caliber 3055 self-winding movement with a single quickset function, allowing for the independent adjustment of the date disc

The 36 mm case is executed in 18K yellow gold and comes attached to the iconic President bracelet with the concealed folding clasp. The black dial, meanwhile, provides a beautiful contrast to the warm sheen of the gold.

This ref. 18038 dates back to 1988 and is in excellent condition with a sharp case and tight bracelet. The watch is accompanied by the original papers and a Rolex box.

Introduction

Rolex Day-DateThe very essence of luxurious time-keeping, provided with a day and date function. It was launched in 1956 as a niche model and was only produced in precious metals, the retail price was way costlier than previous models. However, due to its popularity among a lot of prestigious people (for example a lot of Presidents, hence its nickname/ bracelet name), it became Rolex’ flagship model. Over the years this model enjoyed associations with various ‘kinds of people’, from celebrities to Mafiosi (like Tony Soprano). They had all one thing in common: being successful in their area of expertise. To this day the Day-date is still synonymous with prestige and style. With exception of the most modern models the Day-Date comes in at 36mm. Do you earn this watch?
