This 1972 Rolex GMT-Master ref. 1675 is a strong, honest example from the period when the reference had reached full maturity. By the early seventies the GMT-Master had already proven itself as one of Rolex’s most practical travel watches, yet examples that retain their original character have become increasingly difficult to source.

The dial is a Mark 2 variant, one of the early matte executions used during the transition away from the glossy gilt era. This dial can be recognized by its distinctive typography. The ‘ROLEX’ printing is noticeably thicker, with letters that appear more square than on most other matte dials, where the characters are typically wider than they are tall. Another small but telling detail is the spacing within the word itself: the L and E in ‘ROLEX’ sit much closer together than the other letters. These subtle traits give the dial a slightly more compact visual balance, making the MK2 immediately recognizable to collectors familiar with the reference. Combined with the warm tritium plots and matching hands, it carries the unmistakable presence of an early-1970s GMT-Master.

The case remains notably full. The lugs retain strong thickness and the original beveled edges are still clearly visible, adding definition to the overall profile. These chamfers tend to disappear after repeated polishing, so their survival here speaks to careful ownership over the decades.

Equally attractive is the faded “Pepsi” bezel, which has aged into a particularly pleasing combination of soft red and denim blue. The tones are even and natural, giving the watch the kind of aging that only time produces.

The watch is fitted with the correct folded Oyster bracelet, consistent with the period and completing the watch exactly as it would have left Rolex in the early seventies.

A well-preserved 1675 that captures the reference where it matters most: dial, case geometry, and bezel ageing all working together in the way collectors hope to find.
