A virtually NOS Rolex dresswatch from the 50’s. Impressive in condition and sizing, coming in at 38mm.

In the early ’50s, Rolex was known for steady progress: refining their movements, experimenting with cases, and slowly pushing against the established norms in wristwatch design. The average dress or “everyday” wristwatch of the era measured in the low 30-mm range, often in gold, often modest in size. Meanwhile, tool watches and waterproof Oyster cases gradually grew, but the style boundary remained relatively conservative.

Into this context emerged the Rolex Precision Ref. 8029: a bold expression of Rolex daring to be larger, to speak differently. With its oversized stainless steel case, about 38 mm in diameter, the 8029 was well ahead of its time.

The size alone does not make history. The 8029 marries its generous dimensions with minimalism. Clean dial designs, dauphine hands, and a center-seconds sweep movement give it an elegance grounded in utility. The chamfered lugs, applied coronet and "mushroom crown" give it a discerning grace.

Thus the story of the 8029 is not just one of size or mechanics, but of pushing boundaries; of craftsmanship, design, and prestige. For collectors, it is a piece that speaks of Rolex’s past daring; for enthusiasts, it bridges vintage elegance with a presence that feels relevant even today.

The one offered here is in the best condition possible. 72 Years old but incredibly crisp.
