Audemars Piguet has a long and distinguished history of making exquisite dress watches.This beautiful 5042 from the 1950s is the perfect mid-century dress watch. The 18k yellow gold case features elegant narrow lugs and narrow bezel, which give the watch a larger appearance on the wrist than its classic 33 mm diameter would suggest.While most dress watches from that era came with light or tone-on-tone dials, this particular specimen features an exquisite black lacquer dial with short applied 18k yellow gold baton indices and elegant thin 18k yellow gold hands. As is typical for a dress watch from the 1950s, the seconds hand can be read off of a sub register at the lower half of the dial. The 5042 is powered by Audemars Piguet’s ultra-thin caliber 2001 manual winding movement, which gives the watch a lovely slim profile. According to the Extract from the Archives, the watch dates back to 1957 and comes on a black alligator leather strap.
