This exquisite oval Audemars Piguet dress watch could just as well have been a Cartier creation.Viewed from afar it certainly looks so. With its elongated oval shape, Roman numerals, and gem-set crown it certainly bears some of the Cartier hallmarks, but don’t call it a knock-off just yet. This watch actually fits very well in Audemars Piguet’s line-up of exquisite and creative dress watches from the 1970s.The 18k yellow-gold watch features an elongated oval case with lovely pointed lugs that give it the slightest hint of a tonneau shape. The 23 x 42 mm dimensions and slim curved profile give the watch an elegant wrist presence. The ivory dial is executed in typical minimalist Audemars Piguet style with elongated painted Roman numerals, simple sword hands, and a discrete Audemars Piguet signature. Meanwhile, a sapphire cabochon set crown introduces a cheeky pop of color in what is otherwise a classic dress watch. This elegant watch dates back to 1970 and is powered by an ultra-slim manual winding movement. The watch comes on a brown leather strap with an 18k yellow-gold Audemars Piguet Ardillon buckle and is accompanied by the original box and papers.

Introduction

Audemars PiguetAudemars Piguet is among the holy trinity Swiss maisons d’horlogerie alongside Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin. Audemars Piguet has a storied history of producing high-complication watches. It all started in 1875, when Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet founded the company in the heart of the Vallée de Joux, Le Brassus, Switzerland. This pure, rough and wild landscape, with deep, dark forests, ice-cold waters and the omnipresence of rocks and hills, provided inspiration and raw materials for the Swiss watch manufacture to develop the finest watches. Since its inception, Audemars Piguet has specialized in rare, valuable and highly-complicated watches like perpetual calendars, chronographs and chiming watches. Nowadays, the emphasis of Audemars Piguet lies on the iconic Royal Oak line.
