The rare ref. 570 is one of the most beautiful dress watches ever made. This exquisite piece in white gold is even more special!Introduced in 1938, the ref. 570 is the oversized brother of the ref 96, the original Patek Calatrava launched in 1932. Even though the ref. 96 was quite popular at the time, Patek recognized that its diminutive size (just 31 mm) was not to everyone’s liking. The ref. 570 was enlarged to a healthy 35.5 mm, quite large for a dress watch in the 1930s.Patek’s Calatrava line follows the Bauhaus adage that form should follow function. So does the ref. 570. The thin and elegantly curved lugs, polished flat bezel, and simple crown with raised Calatrava cross are the epitome of understated elegance. The opaline dial is clean and unassuming, with applied dots at the minute track and faceted 18k white gold hour markers. The markers are complemented by 18k white gold dauphine hands. The ref. 570 was offered from 1938 until 1972 in yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, platinum, and steel. While the vast majority of 570s were made in yellow gold, this specimen is cased in 18k white gold. The watch is in absolutely amazing condition with thick lugs and razor sharp edges.According to the accompanying extract of the Patek Philippe archives, this 570 was produced in 1964. The watch comes on a dark green alligator leather strap with an 18k white gold Patek-signed ardillon buckle.
