A highly complicated vintage Rolex doesn’t exi- how about this 50’s triple calendar with chronograph? This French execution of the JCK is one of only a couple hundred 6036 ever made in steel.

Rolex watches are built for daily life and to last generations. This doesn’t sound groundbreaking and nowadays many brands can say the same. But ever since the founding of the company, 12 decades ago, Rolex aimed at durability and reliability. It is in their tradition to not make it difficult for themselves, which paradoxically, is a very hard thing to accomplish. So complications aren't the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about Rolex. Not because they weren’t able to compete with brands like Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet or Patek Philippe; but because they purposefully steered away as they focused on aforementioned necessities.

Hopefully you can now appreciate our excitement to offer one of the few exceptions: the Datocompax! This family of 5, scarcely produced, references sport a chronograph and triple calendar function. The 6036 is arguably the most acclaimed execution and was produced in the 50's. To mitigate the fragility, the valjoux based caliber is housed in a monblock Oyster case. This 36mm measuring marvel is executed in steel. Only a couple hundred have ever been produced and this one is -not only- fresh to the market, but also remains in very strong condition.

The dial is unrestored and remarkably charming. The grené finish gives it a warm aura, enhanced by the sunken coronet and gold pyramid markers. The chronograph hands and pointer date are in blued steel, complimenting the blue printing on the periphery of the dial. Just like the calendar wheels, that are displayed in apertures on each side of the coronet, the language used on the dial is in French; hence one reads "Chronographe" underneath the brandname and " Anti-magnetique" above the hourtotalizer.

It is provided with a bracelet that also originates from "L'Hexagone". Gay Freres is a significant bracelet maker that worked for Rolex, among other prestigious brands. This "GayFlex Super" further enhances the sporty elegance this complicated toolwatch has to offer. But if preferred on leather, it also is delivered with an original black leather strap with Rolex buckle.
